A restatement of the “So What” from the Thesis Statement follows the Bridge Sentence. To review, the Thesis Statement consists of three segments: main claim or opinion, supporting arguments and why your claim matters or why this subject is important to the reader (called the “So What”). The final part of the Thesis Statement is now what is restated.
Remember: Try to summarize and restate the “So What” in a general or worldly way.
Remember: To rewrite a sentence, use synonyms, different word order and different sentence structures (active / passive or simple / complex / compound) to be effective. Make sure to think about the grammar that needs to change when writing a restatement.
Example
Through his humbleness, determination, and bravery, it is clear that Santiago is an ideal role model, which is important because Santiago motivates Manolin to strive for his dreams.
Restatement
Manolin learns vital life lessons from Santiago’s legacy created from his compelling life experiences and wealth of knowledge as a redeemed fisherman.
