Occasionally, Proof Sentences (Quotations) have four or more lines of speech from just one speaker. In this case, it should be placed (indented) in a free-standing text block with no quotation marks. As well, the originating part of the citation should be finished with a colon (:).
Example
– regarding Santiago’s humbleness supporting his being a strong role model for Manolin in the novella The Old Man and the Sea:
First, throughout the novella, Santiago consistently shows a high degree of humbleness in his exchanges with people and the natural world. (Topic Sentence) Santiago’s cramping hand hurts his pride, but he does not feel the need to always announce this to other people. (Point – about being humble with people) On page 26 Hemingway writes:
For a long time after that everyone had called him The Champion and there
had been a return match in the spring. But not much money was bet and he
had won it quite easily since he had broken the confidence of the n**** from
Cienfuegos in the first match. After that he had a few matches and then no
more. He decided that he could beat anyone if he wanted to badly enough
and he decided that it was bad for his right hand for fishing. He had tried a few
practice matches with his left hand. But his left hand had always been a traitor
and would not do what he called on it to do and he did not trust it.
(Proof from the novella that supports the Point)
This evidence proves the Point of Santiago being humble with his abilities and not needing to continually prove them to people.
