The Final Statement should make readers perceive a sense of completeness, end on a positive note and feel they learned something valuable. Readers of your essay should be left thinking about the possibilities of your topic, its broader meaning or its inferences.
A Final Statement must be broad, worldly and can be:
- A prediction
- A piece of advice
- A recommendation
- A possible implication
- A quote
- Your opinion
If you have a great quote that you did not use in the essay, this is a good location for it. A quote can further support your thesis in a different slant but it needs to be supported with some explanation from you.
Furthermore, it is amazing if you can connect the Concluding Paragraph to the Introduction Paragraph by restating a word or phrase you used at the start.
Example
– Santiago as an ideal role model
While becoming a positive role model is not always easy, Hemingway’s Santiago demonstrates that anyone can be a role model regardless of age, race or gender and provide inspiration to people around them.
