Citations

When you directly quote a work (novel, poem, play, etc.) in your essay, you need to use citations. There are two basic Citation formats: MLA and APA. Your teacher will notify you which one to use. 

MLA

Works Cited List: 

Author Last Name, First Name. Title. City of Publication. Publisher, Year.

In-text: 

(Author Last Name Page Number)

Works Cited List: 

Fitzgerald, F. Scott. The Great Gatsby. New York, C. Scribner’s Sons, 1925.

In-text:

(Fitzgerald 25)

APA

Works Cited List: 

Author Last Name, First Name. (Date of Publication). Title. City of Publication: Publisher.

In-text: 

(Author Last Name, Date Published, Page Number)

Works Cited List:

Fitzgerald, F. Scott. (1925). The Great Gatsby. New York: C. Scribner’s Sons.

In-text:

(Fitzgerald, 1925, p. 25)
